DfI Apologises Over Lack of Notice for Belfast Road Lane Closures

South Antrim MP, Robin Swann has responded to concerns raised by residents regarding unannounced lane closures on the Belfast Road, Antrim, during recent street lighting works.

After engaging with the Department for Infrastructure (DfI) on behalf of local residents who were not notified in advance, DfI confirmed that a letter drop was not carried out on this occasion and offered an apology for the oversight. The Department noted that while the lane closure was listed on Trafficwatch NI, major work on the site is now substantially complete, and ongoing work to make the new lights operational will not require further lane closures.

Once the new lighting columns are fully connected, DfI will return to remove the old redundant columns. This final stage will require a brief lane closure and is expected to take no longer than three days to complete.

Commenting on the response, Robin Swann MP said:

"It is essential that residents are kept informed about roadworks that directly impact their daily routines. While I welcome the Department’s apology and the news that major lane closures have ended for this phase, I will continue to press DfI to ensure better communication with the local community during future works."
