Robin Swann MP and UUP Lords Write to the Chancellor on NI City Deals

Along with my Ulster Unionist colleuages in the House of Lords, I have written to the Chancellor asking for the two outstanding City Deals to be fully funded. The full letter is below: Dear Chancellor,

This week a delegation of representatives from the Mid South West Economic Engine and Grow Causeway Coast and Glens, as well as councillors and council chairs and mayors from four Northern Ireland councils attended Westminster. All of these representatives were united in their call to ‘Lift the Pause on our Growth’ and reinstate funding for the Mid South West and Causeway Coast and Glens City Deals.

Although we welcomed the reversal of the halt on the Belfast City Region and the Derry-Londonderry and Strabane City Region Deals, we are disappointed that the UK Government has not yet recommitted to the combined £162 million investment for the Mid South West and Causeway Coast and Glens regional deals.

Ahead of the Autumn budget, we write to you to reiterate our support for the Northern Ireland City Deals investments, and to echo the calls of yesterday’s delegation of councillors - the pause must be lifted. We ask that the UK Government fully honour what was committed to all four regions.

Yours sincerely,

Robin Swann MP

Lord Rogan of Lower Iveagh

Lord Empey of Shandon

Lord Elliott of Ballinamallard
