Swann calls for end to Two-Child Limit on Universal Credit

Ahead of Chancellor's budget next month, Robin Swann MP has called for the abolition of the two child limit, as outlined in the Ulster Unionist Party manifesto, saying:

"At the General Election last year, the Ulster Unionist Party committed to prioritising addressing poverty and its devasting effects – including calling for the abolition of the Universal Credit two-child limit. This commitment still stands, and at every opportunity I have opposed the two child-limit in Parliament. As ‘Budget Day’ approaches next month, I will continue to urge the Government to abolish this limit.

"The limit is unfair, short-sighted, and damaging to families already struggling with the cost of living. This policy does not recognise that every child deserves the same support regardless of the order in which they were born.

"My primary concern is that when many families are feeling the cost-of-living pressure, this limit only deepens inequality and poverty. The Government must ensure that Universal Credit provides genuine support for families who need it most.
