Swann Secures Clarity on Aldergrove Security
Following a recent announcement from the Ministry of Defence that several military sites in Northern Ireland will be moving from armed guarding to greater physical security measures, Mr Swann has sought clarity from the government on the provisions at RAF Aldergrove.
In response to Mr Swann, the Ministry of Defence have confirmed that whilst they are changing provisions at a number of Army Reserve Centres in Northern Ireland, the Northern Ireland Security Guard Service will continue to provide armed security to protect RAF Aldergrove.
In response to Mr Swann, the MOD said:
“The MOD remains committed to maintaining the highest standards of security and will continue to adapt and respond to all threats to safeguard our national defence capabilities.”
Mr Swann said:
“This confirmation from the MOD is very welcome. Aldergrove plays a key strategic role in our defence, and with the recent security breach at Brize Norton, the need to protect the site has become very clear.”
