Swann Seeks Update on Belfast International Airport Funding

Robin Swann MP has asked Mike Kane MP (Minister for Aviation) for confirmation that the government will provide support to Northern Ireland’s airports “to continue and improve connectivity” and the £2.3 million promised by the previous government for Belfast International Airport as part of the Levelling-Up Fund 2. Mr Swann outlined that this funding would reduce air and noise pollution and improve experience.

The Minister welcomed the return of the Northern Ireland Executive and made it clear that it’s up to the Executive to decide how the devolution settlement is spent.

Mr Kane said that “the future’s bright for aviation” in Northern Ireland with the announcement of EasyJet’s announcements new routes to Prague and Marrakesh, as well as new aircraft, from the International Airport this week.

On the government’s response, Mr Swann commented:

“The aviation industry plays a very important role in our local economy in South Antrim. The International Airport is also vital for keeping us all connected and provides an essential service for businesses, holiday makers and commuters.

“I will continue to advocate for this Levelling-Up money to be allocated for improvements at the airport, and this remains an important priority for me as the MP for South Antrim.”
