South Antrim MP Robin Swann is set to host event on the protection and conservation of native swifts as part of the upcoming Great Big Green Week. The free event is being held between 13:00 and 14:00 on Friday 12 June at the Lock Keeper’s Cottage in Toome.
Mr Swann will be joined at the event by local swift conservationists including representatives from the Antrim RSPB Group to discuss their ‘Home for Swifts’ campaign.
The South Antrim MP hopes the event will serve as an important opportunity to raise awareness of the need to protect these birds. He is encouraging individuals, businesses and the Council to take small but important steps to make sure the ‘Bird of the Borough’ has a home here.
Mr Swann said:
"I am pleased to be hosting this event as part of the Great Big Green Week to highlight the really important work being done to protect our native swifts. These birds are an important part of our local nature, and it is essential that we do more to support their conservation."
"I look forward to welcoming local residents to the Lock Keeper’s Cottage to discuss how we can all play a part in making South Antrim a safer place for these birds."
