Robin Swann MP has welcomed the significant local support for reopening the Knockmore Line following a successful drop-in public meeting at the Crumlin Hub.

Since the line closed in 2003, the towns and villages of Aldergrove, Crumlin, Glenavy and Ballinderry have been cut off from the wider rail network, leaving many residents feeling forgotten and left behind.

Mr Swann met with locals to discuss the vital need to bring trains back to these rural communities. He highlighted that restoring the tracks is about more than just transport, it will also go a long way in revitalising the local economy and supporting the small businesses that make these towns thrive.

The project will once again link the area to the wider rail network through Antrim and Lisburn before heading on to Belfast. This creates rail link for commuters travelling to and from work and provides a safe, reliable option for school kids who have lacked proper connectivity for over two decades.

Mr Swann said following the session:

"The enthusiasm in Crumlin today was clear.

"The infrastructure to and from our rural towns have been side-lined for too long. Reopening this line puts us back on the map and ensures that commuters, students and local businesses are finally connected to the rest of the rail network."
