South Antrim MP Robin Swann has challenged the Prime Minister over his failure to support women born in the 1950s who were impacted by state pension age changes.
During the final Prime Minister’s Questions of the parliamentary session, Mr Swann highlighted the Government’s lack of action on several key issues, including the ongoing struggle for pension justice.
The intervention coincides with Mr Swann joining a cross-party group of over 60 Parliamentarians in signing a formal letter to the Department for Work and Pensions. The letter expresses disappointment at the Government’s decision to reject compensation for affected women and calls for a commitment to urgent consultation and financial redress to be included in the next King’s Speech.
Robin Swann MP said:
“Despite the Parliamentary and Health Service Ombudsman concluding in March 2024 that maladministration and injustice had occurred, the Government has yet to implement a compensation scheme.
“I remain committed to ensuring that the 1950s born women in South Antrim receive the recognition and financial compensation they are owed.”
