South Antrim MP Robin Swann has challenged the Government to provide a progress report on the supply of veterinary medicines in Northern Ireland following the full implementation of the Windsor Framework requirements.

In a letter to Baroness Hayman at the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, Mr Swann followed up on a December 2025 meeting held with the Minister alongside Robbie Butler MLA, Chair of Stormont's Agriculture, Environment and Rural Affairs Committee.

With new trade rules in effect since January 2026, the Ulster Unionist MP sought clarity on the performance of the new measures intended to protect the supply of these medicines.

Mr Swann commented:

"Since January 2026, Northern Ireland has been operating under the full implementation of Windsor Framework rules on veterinary medicine. It is essential that we see how the Government's mitigation measures are performing in practice for our vets, farmers and pet owners.

"I have asked Baroness Hayman to confirm whether her department has conducted any formal assessment of the impact these changes are having on the ground. The long-term availability of veterinary medicines is vital for animal welfare and the agri-food sector.

"Clarity is required to ensure that farmers, pet owners, and vets have the certainty they need to plan for the future."
