South Antrim MP Robin Swann has tabled an Early Day Motion in the House of Commons calling on the Treasury to introduce a targeted 10 per cent hospitality VAT pilot rate for Northern Ireland.

The parliamentary motion highlights the severe financial pressures local businesses are facing due to escalating operating costs and emphasises the sector's vital role in sustaining local towns and high streets.

Robin Swann MP said:

"Our hospitality sector is a cornerstone of the local economy across Northern Ireland. It employs thousands of people, keeps our high streets vibrant, and supports our tourism offering, but businesses are currently facing a significant rise in operating costs.

"For our hospitality industry to survive and thrive, it needs tangible support. That is why I have launched this Westminster motion calling for a specific pilot scheme to cut hospitality VAT to 10 per cent in Northern Ireland.

"A targeted reduction would provide immediate breathing room for businesses, safeguard jobs, and stimulate local economic growth. I urge the Treasury to be bold, recognise the unique challenges facing the sector, and back this pilot to protect our hospitality industry for the future."
